In April 2026, Chef Gabi Odebode of Afromeals Foundation partnered with Hope Ignites through two community-centered experiences focused on food, culture, and youth education.

As part of the partnership, Chef Gabi prepared meals for Hope Ignites and also led an interactive educational session for teens through Afromeals Foundation's "Build Your Spice" experience. The partnership reflected Afromeals Foundation's ongoing mission of using food as a tool for education, connection, creativity, and community wellness.

Creating Connection Through Food

Food can play an important role in bringing people together and creating meaningful community experiences. Through preparing meals for Hope Ignites, Afromeals Foundation had the opportunity to support and engage with youth through culturally inspired food and community-centered hospitality.

At Afromeals Foundation, food is viewed as more than nourishment. It can also create connection, comfort, conversation, and opportunities for learning and engagement.

Teaching Teens How Flavor Works

In addition to preparing meals, Chef Gabi also led teens through Afromeals Foundation's "Build Your Spice" educational session. During the hands-on experience, students learned more than simply how to mix spices together. The session introduced teens to how flavors work, how ingredients complement one another, and how different spices and seasonings can completely change the taste and character of a meal.

Students explored:

  • Flavor combinations
  • The purpose of different spices and seasonings
  • Culturally inspired ingredients
  • Creativity in cooking
  • Practical food and kitchen knowledge

The session encouraged curiosity, confidence, and creativity while helping students better understand the role ingredients and flavor building play in cooking.

Hands-On Food Education for Youth

At Afromeals Foundation, food education is designed to be interactive, approachable, and community-centered. Programs like "Build Your Spice" help introduce young people to cooking and nutrition concepts in a way that feels engaging, memorable, and practical.

By combining culture, creativity, and hands-on learning, the Foundation continues creating opportunities for youth to build confidence in the kitchen while learning practical skills that can support long-term wellness and self-sufficiency.

Community Partnerships That Create Impact

The partnership with Hope Ignites reflects the importance of community collaboration in creating opportunities that support youth engagement, mentorship, education, and wellness.

Afromeals Foundation remains committed to expanding culturally relevant food education, cooking programs, and community wellness initiatives across Cincinnati, Dayton, Northern Kentucky, and surrounding communities.
